Project Based Learning
Kid Power! takes a hands-on approach to learning, encouraging the children to become active in the discovery process.  Some recent projects include:  growing mold to learn about germs, "working" in the organic vegetable garden, watching live caterpillars turn into butterflies, and making a Cinco de Mayo pinata.

Process Art

Young children don't just create art; they experience it.  We strive to create projects and crafts that children of many ages and ability levels can enjoy.  For them, it is more about the process than the final product.  A great example is the Earth Day globe at the top of this page, which used both finger painting and sprinkle art.

Exercise
Exercise, dance, and gross motor skill activities are a part of our daily schedule.  It is our job, as adults, to encourage healthy habits in the children we care for.  Besides--it's fun!

Communication with Parents and Families

We strongly encourage family participation and work with families to ensure a consistent experience for children as the move between home and daycare.  At the beginning of each week, parents are e-mailed a curriculum including activities for the week, the books we are focusing on, songs/poems to do at home, and the menu.  We also have all-family events planned several times a year for Kid Power! families to get to know each other.

Respect for Nature and Other People
A big part of our subject matter involves learning about the natural world and other cultures.  By learning about insects, for example, we learn their value.  By celebrating Chinese New Year, we are creating the foundation for a thoughtful global citizen.

Rest
All of us feel better when we are well-rested, and children are no exception.  Their brains and bodies need time to process all of the exciting things they are learning and doing!  Adequate and regular sleep is key to a having a daycare full of happy, growing children.  Children at Kid Power! begin their naps between 1:30 and 2:00 every day.
